Today’s money saving tip: Do not purchase breakfast cereal in this small single serving boxes. If your kids like to have, their cereal already portioned out purchase the big bags of cereal, makes single servings in zip lock bags, and keeps them in a basket. In the morning, you can put the basket in the middle of the dining room table and the kids can pick out which kind they want.

When shopping for groceries, never go shopping when you are hungry. It can be very tempting, when you are looking through your cupboards and fridge and cannot find anything that looks good to eat, to think, well I might as well just go do the grocery shopping now.

The problem with doing this is that when you get to the store, everything looks good so you wind up putting a lot more in your cart than you normally would. Regarding sales and store specials, many stores have sales like 5 for $5 or 10 for $10; so many people think they have to buy that many. Most stores do not require that you buy the total amount to get the discount. Therefore, if you see something for sale 10 for $10, you do not need to buy 10; you can just buy one or two for a dollar each.

Of course, if you have the extra money in your budget it never hurts to buy them if they are nonperishable, as you will save quite a bit of money. Many times these items are twice as much regular price. It is just good to know that you don’t have to buy that many if it doesn’t fit into your budget.
