What Are Stored Value Cards?
A stored value card is a type of debit card which contains prepaid monetary value stored in a magnetic strip or an electronic device embedded on a card which provides users with the ability to make a purchase.
A stored value card isn't a checking nor a saving account yet your money is stored in a bank.
In some cases stored valued cards are pre-loaded with a fixed amount of money that can then purchase goods and services up to the amount on the card.
The balance on the card is automatically tracked until all
the value has been exhausted, at which time the card can be discarded.
Some stored value cards allow the cardholder to direct how much money to place on a card and "replenish" it as needed. Some cards also can serve as a debit card and allow cardholder access to automated teller machines (ATM) around the world.
Stored value cards can be
single or multi-purpose.
Single-purpose cards are used to purchase goods and services provided only by the
card issuer. Conversely, multi-purpose cards can be used for purchases of goods and services provided not only by the issuer, but also by third parties who are willing to accept the cards for
payment.
Often with stored value cards the value that is stored is your money that you have deposited to your card so there is no danger of going over your spending limit.
Typically, you can withdraw these funds from your card by way of an ATM machine or by making purchases.
If your stored value card is branded by MasterCard or Visa you may also use your card online.
A stored value card can have all the benefits of a debit card while at the same time offer all of the convenience of a credit card.
With a stored value card you never have to worry about late penalties or interest charges,
plus you have the advantage of being able to shop with it online, or by
mail-order.

Mastercard or Visa, you have the advantage of being able to travel with your stored value card and withdraw funds from over 900,000 ATM machines worldwide.
